How does the firm supervise young Associates?
KMFM takes great pride in its 2:1 Partner/Associate ratio. For every two Associates, there is a Supervising Partner who works closely and frequently with each attorney to foster their professional growth and development in a variety of practice-related skill areas.
Does the firm encourage continuing education?
In addition to the State Bar’s mandatory continuing legal education (MCLE) requirement, KMFM encourages its attorneys to stay abreast of current developments in the law through additional voluntary continuing legal education. Moreover, KMFM has been chartered by the State Bar to provide in-house educational seminars and training to firm lawyers and other members of the legal community, which meet rigorous MCLE study-program requirements.
What research tools are there available to KMFM lawyers?
In addition to a three-thousand volume library, attorneys and paralegal staff at KMFM have desktop access to all computer research databases, including Lexis and Westlaw.
As a client, how often will I hear from KMFM regarding the status of my case?
At KMFM we know that communication with our clients is a top priority. We take great pride in communicating thoroughly and often with clients on all aspects relative to matters we are handling for them. Clients can expect frequent telephone and written communication from us at each stage of the litigation process.
What is your client billing rate?
KMFM billing rates are discussed with prospective clients on an individual basis bearing in mind the sophistication of the legal matter involved. KMFM prides itself on its extremely competitive rate that is often well below firms of similar prominence and expertise.
Does KMFM provide alternative billing formats?
KMFM has created individually-tailored billing packages for large institutional clients on several occasions. We welcome the opportunity to discuss one of our alternative billing formats with you.
Does the firm have a minimum billable hour requirement?
KMFM takes great pride in providing the highest quality legal services in the most cost-efficient manner possible. As such, there are no arbitrary minimum billable requirements for attorneys in use at the firm.
Does the firm encourage pro bono work?
KMFM encourages all of its attorneys to participate in community work and pro bono activities where possible. In recent years, firm attorneys have participated in Bet Tzedek and the Los Angeles Legal Network, both of which provide legal services to low-income and homeless individuals.
Does your firm have a Summer Associate Program?
KMFM prides itself on recruiting and training young lawyers from Los Angeles-area law schools such as USC, UCLA, Loyola and Southwestern. We often recruit Summer Associates from top out-of-area schools who are spending the summer in Southern California. KMFM has, in the past, had summer associates from as far away as Trinity University Law School in Ireland. Several Summer Associates have gone on to join the firm as full-time Associates upon admission to the Bar.
